Writing (30 minutes)
Directions:For this part, you are allowed thirty minutes to write a composition on the topic “Water”. You should write at least 150 words and you should base your composition on the outline (given in Chinese) below:
1.水的重要性。
2.中国的水资源问题。
3.为了生存和发展人们要……。
写作指导
这是一篇议论文。可按“三段式”进行写作。第一段写水的重要性，首先提出自己的论点，根据这一论点，提出水资源所存在的问题，立刻转入第二段写作。第二段写水资源在中国所面临的挑战，问题的产生及其原因。这一段也是作者要议论的重点，起到告戒读者和世人要引以为戒，并设法解决这些问题，提出切实可行的解决问题的办法。文章最后一段是结论部分，是对第一段的进一步说明和强化。第一段中谈水及水资源对人类的重要性，那么就把保护水资源的问题提到了议事日程上来了。在结尾需再次强调这种重要性。这样，首尾呼应，增强了文章的可感染力与说服力。

Water
No one doubts the importance of water. Human beings live on water, animals live on water, plants live on water and all living things live on water. In short, no water, no life. You can’t imagine what would happen if there were no water in the world!
China is one of the countries in the world who is badly short of water. Its water problem has become more acute in recent years with the increase of water consumption and pollution. In big cities, the water problem has become even worse. As industry has developed, large quantities of water have been or are being consumed or polluted. With the growth of population, more and more water is needed. The most serious problem China is facing is water pollution. It has spread to rivers, lakes, and even the seas or oceans. When dry weather comes, the water problem will go from bad to worse.
In order to survive, man has to be wise enough to treasure water and try to prevent it from being polluted. Man should also know that all resources in the world are limited, including water. Man should reasonably explore water and make good use of it. Otherwise man will be punished by nature. To treasure water is to treasure life. To protect our environment is to protect ourselves.
